A Winder man has been charged with arson after Barrow County Sheriff's Office investigators say he burned down the residence he was renting.
Richard Evan Page, 33, was arrested April 2 following a two-week investigation into a suspicious fire at 315 E. Wright St., Apartment B, in Winder. He has been charged with arson in the first degree and criminal damage to property in the second degree. Barrow Patch has more in this story.
*Marietta Pair Accused of Abusing Special Needs Child* - Marietta Patch
A 2-year-old special needs child was abused so bad last month that he has recurring seizures and may have permanent neurological damage.
The man who allegedly hit the boy and the woman who failed to get him medical treatment in a timely manner were arrested Friday afternoon, according to online jail records.
In Cobb County criminal warrants, authorities allege that between 7 p.m. March 29 and 6:58 p.m. March 31, Kenneth Lamont Thompson of Marietta hit the boy multiple times on both of his legs, thighs and buttocks, which caused multiple bruises. Marietta Patch has more on this story.
*Mableton Man Allegedly Punched, Threw Girl, 13* - South Cobb Patch
A 13-year-old girl complained of pain and bleeding from her right ear after a Mableton man allegedly grabbed, punched, pushed and threw her.
The incident occurred in front of a 9-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy around 6:30 a.m. April 3 inside a residence in the 590 block of South Gordon Road.
According to a Cobb County criminal warrant, Serafin Diaz allegedly grabbed the girl by her hair; struck her in the face with his closed fist and open hand; placed his hands around her neck; threw her out of her bedroom; and pushed her into a hallway wall. South Cobb Patch has more on this story.
*BridgeMill Beating Fugitive Arrested in Florida* - Canton-Sixes Patch
A Cherokee County woman who was wanted for allegedly beating her ex-boyfriend has been arrested in Florida after being on the run since early 2012.
Karen Lynn King was described as the "last suspect" in the March, 2012 assault on Lyndon Baines Smith. Smith was allegedly beaten, stuffed into the trunk of his own car, and driven from the BridgeMill subdivision to Alabama.
Previous to investigators focusing their investigation on finding King, five other suspects,including Smith's sons, were arrested and charged with the assault. Canton-Sixes Patch has more on this story.
*Officer Says Suspect Attempted to Hide Behind Porch Before Tossing Drugs* - Barrow Patch
A suspect with an outstanding warrant for his arrest was Tased after attempting to hide from a Winder officer, then refusing to comply with commands to stop and drop to the ground, according to a police report.
The man was spotted April 2 standing on the front porch of his King Street residence. Aware the suspect had an outstanding warrant for probation violation, the officer parked and walked to the location. Upon finding the porch empty, the officer walked around the residence and, turning a corner, observed the suspect crouched down on the opposite side of the porch.
