A Joliet man who told friends he was taking their 4-year-old daughter with him on a beer run but instead brought her to his apartment to sexually molest her was arrested Thursday, Joliet police said.
Juan M. Gonzalez, 42, of 741 Scott St., was visiting friends at their home in the 400 block of Catalpa Street on March 17 and asked to borrow their car in order to purchase more beer, Cmdr. Rich Demick said. The family's young daughter asked to go with, and they allowed him to take her, he said.
The family grew worried when they didn't return for more than 45 minutes but Gonzalez said several things delayed them, including the girl needing to use the rest room, Demick said. Everything seemed fine until the girl woke up from a nap crying and told her mother that Gonzalez had "kissed her" in the vaginal area, he said.
The father confronted Gonzalez, who admitted what he'd done and then fled the house, Demick said.
The girl later recounted what happened to a victim sensitive interviewer, and Gonzalez was taken into custody, where he admitted to placing the girl on his bed, kissing and licking her genital area, and masturbating, Demick said.
He was charged Thursday with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13 and is being held in Will County jail.
