In 2012, the Hauppauge community has been affected by crimes by drug dealers that had a widespread impact on local residents to individual arrests that neighbors were shocked to hear about.

**2 Hauppauge, 7 Nesconset Residents Charged in Operation Heroin Highwayext: *Two Hauppauge residents and seven Nesconset residents were among the 41 Town of Smithtown residents arrested in a long-term heroin bust announced in late January by Queens County District Attorney.

* *Nesconset Mom Gets 2 Years for Dealing Oxycodone:ext * Despite pleas that jail time would hurt her family, Nesconset's Joanne Connelly was sentenced to 26 months in prison in March for illegally dealing oxycodone, an opiate.

* *Woman Surrenders to FBI, Girl Reunites with Fatherext: *Yvette Torres, a woman on the FBI's most wanted list for allegedly kidnapping her daughter has turned herself into authorities and returned the girl to her father in Hauppauge.

* *Three Men Attempt Robbery of Islandia Gas Stationext*: Three men attempted unsuccessfully to rob a Gulf Gas Station in Islandia on Sept. 10.

* *Armed Robbers Strike Red Mangoext: *Two armed men robbed Red Mangoext in the Hauppauge Shopping Center on Feb. 17, according to Suffolk County Police.

* *Cops: Drunk Driver Behind Wheel in 7-Eleven Accidentext: *Suffolk County Police have arrested Jose Escobar, 29, of Westbury for reportedly getting behind the wheel while drunk, causing a serious accident that injured his pregnant girlfriend and 10-month-oldext. The infant died in the days following the accident and charges were upgraded to vehicular homicide.

* *Man Charged with DWi in Fatal Crashext: *Suffolk County Police say a Brentwood man was driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol during the time of Dec. 15 crash that resulted in the death of one of his passengers.
