A woman was mauled by a pack of pit bulls and seriously injured Sunday night in Flagler County while walking with her 6-year-old daughter, according to sheriff's officials.
Flagler County deputies said Brandy Bookamer, 27, suffered numerous puncture wounds and lacerations in the attack, which occurred near her home on Holly Lane in Daytona North around 8 p.m. Sunday.
Deputies said Bookamer protected her daughter from the five dogs and told her to run home, saving the girl from injury.
Bookamer was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach for treatment, but her condition as of Monday was not known. Flagler County sheriff's officials said her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Deputies located the dogs in the 6200 block of Mahogany Boulevard and notified Animal Control officials, who took possession of the animals.
Bookamer's daughter is now staying with her grandparents.
