Northborough police arrested a Norton man at a home in Shrewsbury on Tuesday for an incident at Motel 6, where two days earlier the man allegedly exposed himself to a woman and her daughters, who were staying at the motel.
Jeffrey H. Flannery, 55, 39 Reseroir St., Norton, was arrested at a Shrewsbury home at which he was staying, on charges of open and gross lewdness.
Officer Phillip Martin says he responded to a call from an employee at Motel 6 on May 13, who relayed a disturbance that had occurred earlier in the day. Flannery, according to employees, had been dropped off at the motel on May 12. On May 13, a report had come in around 2 a.m. of a man who was "banging on the door and using foul language."
An employee went upstairs to check, and saw a man, later to be identified as Flannery, with his pants down in the hallway. He was outside the door of the room of a woman and her two daughters, who were staying at the hotel.
The woman said that on Sunday, May 12, she had gone to her car to get some paperwork, and when she headed back to the room, a man followed her, getting into the elevator and making comments. He tried to talk to her and it "made her feel uncomfortable." At one point, she told police, he stumbled and nearly fell, and "smelled of alcohol." The woman reported this to management, at which time Flannery sat in the lobby waiting for a cab and making comments such as "wow" and "wo."
Later that night, around 2 a.m., the woman was in the bathroom of the hotel room when she heard someone outside of her door "talking dirty." Her daughter woke up and looked out of the peephole, where she saw Flannery exposing himself in the hallway, said police.
"Mom, he is not on his cell phone, his pants are down and I can see everything," the girl said. Police said the woman reported she "only saw his orange shirt and wild hair."
Northborough Sgt. Det. Brian Griffin and motel management viewed surveillance footage, which captured the incident on camera. Police went to Flannery's room, but he had left the motel.
Police arrested Flannery on Wednesday afternoon at 80 South St. in Shrewsbury, where, assisted by Shrewsbury police, surveillance had been set up.
Flannery has been living at the Motel Six for an extended period of time, according to police, but was apprehended at a family member's home in Shrewsbury. He gave police the Norton address at the time of booking as his legal address.
Flannery complained of chest pains during the booking, and was brought to Marlborough Hospital. During the arrest, Flannery remarked, "I must have been real drunk. I don't remember anything." He was later released on $40 cash bail. Reported by Patch 2 hours ago.
