'Girl Meets World' set to premiere on the Disney Channel in 2014 Fans of the ’90s TV series, “Boy Meets World,” will be happy to know its follow-up series, “Girl Meets World,” has officially been picked up by the Disney Channel.

The series will feature both Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel as sweethearts Cory and Topanga and the show will follow their seventh-grade daughter, Riley, played by Rowan Blanchard, as she experiences middle school with her best friend, Maya, played by Sabrina Carpenter.

“‘Boy Meets World’ and its story of adolescent self-discovery resonated with an entire generation of tweens,” said Adam Bonnett*,* executive VP of original programming at Disney Channels Worldwide. “In the same way audiences fell in love with Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence, we look forward to introducing our viewers to their daughter Riley Matthews in “Girl Meets World” and building a memorable connection with a whole new generation of fans."

After the show’s development was first announced in November, fans and cast members have showed overwhelming support for the spinoff series. Producer Michael Jacobs said “Girl Meets World” will have a similar feel to it as its precursor, with added development from Cory and Topanga.

"The stories we intend on doing are stories about a real girl who is coming of age," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "The beauty of this show is the girl will have two parents whom the world has already watched come of age and their natural confusion in the next step of Cory and Topanga’s own evolution: being parents. I’m looking at what the condition of the world is right now for kids who are growing up, and if we can offer the same sort of guidance and entertainment that “Boy Meets World” offered, then the show is a good thing to do right now."

It has been announced that William Daniels, who played Mr. Feeny in the original series, will be returning for the first episode. Other cast members Rider Strong and Will Friedle have not confirmed appearances, but have been spotted on set.

The series is scheduled to film this summer and premiere in 2014.
