Seattle author Susan Mallery's name is a familiar one on the bestsellers lists, and she's done it again. Her latest Fool's Gold romance novel, Three Little Words, has debuted at number 2 - statistically tied with number one - on the New York Times mass market paperback and ebook bestsellers lists, and at number four on the USA Today bestsellers list, which tracks all books on a single list. Three Little Words is the third book of this year's Fool's Gold trilogy. Earlier this summer, both Just One Kiss and Two of a Kind also debuted in the Top Ten on the New York Times list.
Three Little Words is about Navy SEAL Ford Hendrix, who returns to his California hometown to open a bodyguard academy. He's not sure how he feels about living so close to his family after fourteen years, especially when his mother seems determined to marry him off, the quicker, the better. In order to preserve his bachelorhood without hurting his mother's feelings, he asks the girl next door to pose as his fake girlfriend for a few weeks, and then pretend to break his heart.
Is the number two spot a new high for Mallery? Sort of. Last year, Summer Nights also landed on the New York Times mass market paperback bestsellers list at number two. The difference is, this year, the number two is followed by an asterisk, indicating that it is in a statistical tie for number one.
"I'm honored," Mallery says, when asked how she feels about her achievement. "The reason my books continue to hit the bestsellers lists is because my readers rush out to buy them as soon as they are released. In fact, I hear from a lot of readers that they were at the bookstore on release day before the booksellers had even put my books out on the shelves. Readers tell their friends about my books, and they tell their friends, and it's all very exciting."
Word of mouth has a lot to do with the success of Mallery's latest book. Three Little Words was released on July 30 in mass market paperback, ebook, and audiobook. Eight days later, on August 7, there were 354 customer reviews on the popular book selling website Amazon.com, with an average rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars. On Barnes and Noble's website, there are 243 customer reviews, averaging 4.5 out of 5.
On August 27, Mallery will release her first cookbook, Susan Mallery's Fool's Gold Cookbook, followed by Christmas on 4th Street, a romance novel on September 24. Mallery makes her home in Bellevue.
