An Oregon girl got a birthday surprise that too many people would be happy to receive when she went shopping at a local mall. Shelby Buster was browsing without her mom around for the first time when she and a friend, Jennica, stopped in at the Rue 21 clothing store
“Me and my friend were walking around the mall for, to spend my birthday money and my mom was sitting in the food court,” said Buster. “I walked in and the lady at the front counter said hey you’re too big to be in this store, I need you to leave.”
Buster’s friend was already at the back of the store checking out perfume. “And so she checked out and walked back and my mom came back to talk to them and they’re like oh we’re so sorry,” said Buster.
The girl’s mom alerted a local television station about what had happened. KEZI then got in contact with the store. According to the Rue 21 district manager, they are aware of what happened and are looking into the matter. The store is going to review video footage to try and determine what exactly happened.
“Seriously that’s disrespectful and rude. Just because I’m bigger than you guys are, I’m not a 14 or smaller. It makes no sense why they would do that,” said Buster. “It just made no sense to me. They should just have more respect, just refrain from insulting people like me and stuff.”
Rue 21 has not been in touch with Buster or her mom as this point.
