With the guidance of local professional women, Girl Scouts will have chance for career exploration. Girls K-3 will have hands on fun while learning about career possibilities over the course of four Saturday mornings.

Lafayette, LA (PRWEB) March 15, 2014

Beginning this March, Girl Scouts of Louisiana – Pines to the Gulf is offering a four session series on career exploration for girls in grades K-3. Local business women have volunteered their time to help young girls discover some career possibilities by sharing their stories and expertise. The girls will get hands-on experience in some of the fields including, but not limited to meeting physician and making a first-aid kit or listening to their own heartbeats, taking pictures with a photographer, decorating cupcakes with a local baker, touring a fire truck with a firefighter, learning table etiquette from a bed and breakfast owner and more.

“This is unlike any other career exploration event for young girls. Each session is designed so the girls have time to spend with the presenter in small groups and to discover and discuss the career path. This is not just a lecture setting. These women will get to share their story on an age-appropriate level and just might inspire these young girls to choose that path,” says Erin Turner, Communications/PR Director for the council. This event is open to all girls in grades K-3. Four different locations will host four sessions:

Lafayette, Crowley, Monroe and Bossier City. This series consists of four sessions that will take place on Saturday beginning March 29 and ending May 10. The first three sessions consist of career exploration with the professional role model volunteers and the final session will be a celebration of what they learned. The girls are encouraged to dress like their chosen career professional. The cost to participate is $25 per girl. Financial assistance is available for annual member dues and the program. For more information on how to join or attend please call 1-800-960-2093 or visit http://www.gslpg.org.
